3D models, animations, and VFX for a VR game «Assemble the Reactor»

For the VR game «Assemble the Reactor», developed on behalf of the machine-building division Atomenergomash, Ariseum specialists have developed models of the main NPP equipment, the hall of the plant, the crane cabin, and the user's avatar.

Customer's background

Atomenergomash Corporation is an engineering division of the Rosatom State Corporation.

Task

To create high-quality models of eight main elements of a nuclear reactor, the hall of the plant with a shaft, the crane cabin, the user's avatar, and additional surrounding elements.

What we have provided

  • Studied the main components of the nuclear reactor and the construction of the hall’s shaft
  • Considered all the surrounding elements of the game scene and special effects
  • Developed 3D models
  • Created high-quality textures
  • Wrote shaders and VFX
  • Animated elements of the scene according to the script

Solution

Ariseum specialists have developed eight main elements of the nuclear reactor for the VR game:

  1. Mantle ring
  2. A reactor's body
  3. Shaft of the reactor
  4. Enclosure (4 segments)
  5. A safety tubes block
  6. Supports (grate)
  7. Cover
  8. Pins

The user in the gaming environment was placed in the cabin of a crane suspended from the ceiling of the hall; its model was created based on the technical drawings. To make the user comfortable in the game and let them feel their body, we have developed the user's virtual avatar that precisely simulates all movements.

The player had to place all the elements of the nuclear reactor into the shaft of the reactor located in the plant’s hall. The modelers team designed the hall environment and the shaft according to the provided photographs and sketches.

To enhance the scene, we developed some elements of the surroundings and added factory worker characters.

The actions of the user in the virtual environment were accompanied by a synchronous animation of crane elements and chains, as well as lively visual effects.

The models were optimized for the virtual environment and handed over to our developers.

Altogether, 7 modelers, animators, and video designers were involved in the creation of the visual part of the project.
