Toyota Motor Corporation is the largest Japanese car manufacturer, according to Forbes it ranked 10th place among public companies worldwide.

Russian plant has been working in St. Petersburg since 2007. Working process is based on unified corporate standards, according to the company's philosophy: production technology provides quality built into the process.

Task

To develop software for virtual loader simulators. The main goal is education of the employees and testing the knowledge acquired; Providing of possibility to develop the fundamental safety skills during the working process, based on two assignments - loading and uploading of modules on the turntable.

To create a scalable system of the simulator, which could be installed at any customer's plant.

Solution

Ariseum team developed a user application for trainings in VR format based on HTC Vive platform. Administrative panel provides access to statistical data of the tasks completed by users and enables to monitor physical communication between user and loader.

How it works

Simulator operates in two modes: instruction and testing. Putting on VR helmet the user appears inside an exact copy of the real loader cabin, equipped with operating elements. During the instruction, the user performs tasks given by the voice assistant; The system leads him consistently from action to action, warning about mistakes. During the testing, the user performs all operations himself. The result of the test is fixed in the user's profile and it is available for administrator.

The loader acts in virtual reality on the territory of training location. It is surrounded by working objects, such as а turntable and loading modules.

Our specialists connected to the control board of the loader what enables users to stay in real loader, pushing pedals and levers, while the operation of the loader takes place in the virtual world.

Equipment

During the implementation of the project, the following equipment was used:

VR helmet

HTC Vive, additional 2 vive trackers to monitor user's hands.

Set of potentiometers, gyroscope and other sensors to install on the loader.

Result

The implemented project represents the virtual system equal to the real loader. When working with it the user gets to experience of total Immersion and has the possibility to consolidate fundamental safety skills for the loader is operating.
