3D models of the most symbolic sights of Russian cities, animation and VFX for Tinkoff Bank Stand

For the AR mobile app of Tinkoff Bank that was presented at the Economic Forum, we have developed 15 3D models of the touristic sights in million-plus cities. We have also developed 15 landscapes of these cities.

Customer's background

Tinkoff Bank is a commercial bank that is fully focused on remote servicing. 

Task

To let the users visualize the geographical distribution of services offered by Tinkoff Bank, the 15 most important touristic attractions in 1M-plus cities had to be identified, created, and placed on a landscape with a map. 

What we have provided

  • Ran a massive search of reference images of the selected objects for subsequent modeling

Solution

After the search for the touristic sights, we have chosen the most important landmarks in each city:

We have found reference images for each object from each side, as well as the data regarding their dimensions, side ratio, and geometry.

Based on these data, the modelers of Ariseum Company have accurately reconstructed the geometry of the selected buildings and constructions and textured the models so that their resemblance to the originals was virtually photographic.

Given that the models in the AR could not just float in the air, our team decided to model the outlines of the regions of these cities. We overlayed a map texture on the outlines and under the outlines created a volumetric soil layer. The same technology was used for an overall map; following the script, the selected city on this map highlighted and rose up to the user.

The presentation also included special effects of the appearing cities and the touristic attractions, the fireworks, emoticons, and other elements; animated characters-employees of the bank that moved around the cities.

The development of the content engaged 3 modelers, 2 animators, and a video designer. All elements of the project are optimized for viewing on mobile devices.
